This project builds on the capacity-building assistance provided over the past three years to support the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) to improve the design and implementation of its Professional Growth System. This year, R7CC will also help MDE to revise the training required of new leaders to obtain licensure. MDE recognizes the need for new leaders to receive training that is consistent, meets state requirements for licensure, addresses the needs that new leaders have in meeting their responsibilities, and reflects design principles for effective adult learning. A review of existing courses and feedback from stakeholders pointed to the need for improved training that will be required of all new school leaders, which includes modules on Strengthening Teams, Strengthening Instruction, and Strengthening Schools.
