Since May 2016, Gale Denise Story Satchel, Ed.D., has served the children of the Colbert County School District, Alabama, as superintendent. Additionally, she serves on several not-for-profit boards, including Listerhill Credit Union, Helen Keller Birthplace Foundation, and Helen Keller Hospital. As a delegation leader with People to People, Dr. Satchel has traveled to Europe, Canada, and Australia.
Dr. Satchel earned a B.S. from Jacksonville State University, an M.S. from the University of Wisconsin, an Ed.S. from the University of North Alabama, and an Ed.D. from Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Satchel and her husband have one son, Melcha Jr. (MJ), who is an honor student at the University of North Alabama. Her husband, Big Melcha, serves as principal for Colbert County High School.
Dr. Satchel is the oldest of about 156 kids; her mother, Judith Taylor Story, has been a certified foster parent for 40 years. Her father, Jerry Collins Story, was killed during his tour of duty in the Vietnam War and is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D. C.
