Monica Young, Ph.D., is a member of the Region 7 Comprehensive Center leadership team and provides support to the Mississippi Equitable Access to Effective Educators project. She has worked across the education sector for 16 years managing, directing, and evaluating Grades K–12 public sector research while collaborating with researchers, technical assistance providers, the U.S. Department of Education (ED), grantees, and state education agencies (SEAs) to provide assistance to meet state and local needs. Most recently, she has supported the sustainability and data use efforts of district, university, and nonprofit grantees of the Effective Educator Development Division at the ED.
Dr. Young also is an expert for the Statewide Longitudinal Data System program, focusing on equity and educator data. Previously, Dr. Young managed the Equitable Access Support Network for the ED, a technical assistance center focused on supporting states with designing and implementing plans to ensure that all students have equitable access to excellent educators. Previously at the New York State Education Department, she established a metrics business unit that provided targeted analytics and research for commissioners to make data-driven policy decisions, increase efficiency of federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act measures and calculations, and improve stakeholder communication. Dr. Young has been a critical friend to states related to Title II, equity, and federal report card requirements.
