Ruth Gumm

Ruth Gumm

Ruth Gumm is a research associate at RMC Research Corporation and serves on the literacy team at the Region 7 Comprehensive Center to assist Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi with evidence-based literacy implementation. She is project lead for the Florida Grades PK–3 literacy plan and supports the Florida Standards Implementation and School Leadership Team projects. For 16 years prior to working at RMC Research, Ms. Gumm provided technical assistance and capacity-building services as a Florida Department of Education reading program specialist, a research associate for the Eastern Regional Reading First Technical Assistance Center and a research associate for the Center on Instruction at Florida State University. She presented at national and state conferences, developed professional development systems, and delivered teacher training workshops on literacy instruction, intervention, and assessment.

Ms. Gumm has more than 40 years of educator experience with expertise in evidence-based literacy practice that has earned her recognition as an educator with highest student literacy gains at both school and district levels in Iowa and Florida. She has taught classrooms of students in Grades PK–8 and served as a Grades K–8 reading specialist, middle school reading department head, and varied exceptionalities.

EDUCATION: M.S. coursework in reading and English language arts from Florida State University; B.A. in elementary education, Grades K–8 reading from University of Northern Iowa
