Sheryl Turner, director of the Region 7 Comprehensive Center, is a senior research associate and director of the RMC Research Tampa office. She has more than 32 years of experience in education as a leader and director of educational programs, a technical assistance provider, principle investigator, researcher, and teacher.
Ms. Turner began her career as a teacher in a high-poverty, low-performing school. Her pursuit of evidence-based instruction for literacy led her to work at the Florida Center for Reading Research, the National Reading Technical Assistance Center, and the Center on Instruction. She has provided assistance to states, districts, and foundations in their planning, implementation, and evaluation of Grades PK–12 literacy initiatives.
Ms. Turner serves as an expert resource in literacy and teacher quality, identifying evidence-based tools and resources, developing literacy products, and collaborating on professional development to support professional capacity-building and sustainability at state, district, and school levels. Most recently, she directed a subcontract to Florida State University and the Regional Educational Laboratory Southeast.
