For use in professional learning communities (PLCs), this Regional Educational Laboratory Southwest facilitator’s guide supports the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) practice guide titled Teaching Academic Content and Literacy to English Learners in Elementary and Middle School. The facilitator’s guide engages educators in a five-step collaborative and cyclical process to build teacher knowledge and application of evidence-based strategies appropriate for Grades K–8 English learners’ acquisition of language and literacy skills. PLC participants engage in eight 75-minute sessions that incorporate both small-group and whole-group activities. To support facilitators, guidance in session preparation as well as organizational tools are provided. The following links contain the IES practice guide and ancillary videos for PLC use:
