This document details research on early mathematics learning for early childhood educators and strives to clarify instructional goals for early mathematics development. Geared toward preschool teachers, this document provides teachers with assessments that are objective, accurate, and valid and which can be used frequently to assess children’s skills in critical mathematics domains. The core components of number knowledge, spatial knowledge, and linear measurement are detailed in this resource along with information on the types of learning experiences children should encounter in math instruction.
