Rubric for Evaluating Reading/Language Arts Instructional Materials for Kindergarten to Grade 5

Content Start
This rubric, based on rigorous research, is designed for use by practitioners and university faculty who are reviewing Grades K–5 reading/language arts instructional materials. The rubric is organized by content area for each grade span, Grades K–2 and Grades 3–5, with a set of criteria for evidence-based practice that instructional materials in these content areas and grade spans should include. The criteria are aligned to the recommendations found in the six What Works Clearinghouse practice guides. The rubric uses a 1-5 scale to rate how well the criteria are met. Guidance is provided for how to use the rubric and includes information on facilitator responsibilities, professional development needed for reviewers, and how to use the ratings.
